Dear
Enthusiasts friends,
What is this (not only classic cars) world coming to? In times of
growing traffic and emissions on the German autobahns the German
Railroads have just announced that they are going to close down the
Auto-Train network so indispensible not only for our classic car rallies
to the south of Europe.
Now, and much more imminent and disasterous, is the closing down of the
only remaining ferry line between south Scandinavia and northern Germany
from Esbjerg to England (as of the 30th of September). What is worse is
that nobody seems to be complaining and intervening on all levels
including governments, neither in England nor in Denmark or Sweden. In
Germany at least a petition website was created to protest the closing
down of the Auto-Trains (www.autozug-retten.de)
in these times of growing traffic and emissions on the roads.
Not so in connection with the ferry from Esbjerg to Harwich. No
press intervention, no government action, no automobile club criticism,
no protest by those concerned!!! We will probably not make an impact on
DFDS as an RREC car club. But, can we influence the media? The relevant
tourist boards or organisations? The Scandinavian ADAC equivalent? The
ministry for tourism?
I don't know how you feel, but I would hate to take a pre-war car
through Germany, Holland, Belgium or France to go to the next RREC
events. On a larger scale I don't know how this is going to affect
tourism between North Sea neighboring countries.
Can you help?
Best regards from a frustrated Enthusiast!
Rolf
